Don’t Play Dumb Ms Palin

If there’s one thing Sarah Palin knows its how to milk any sort of mention of her name in the national media.  Evita, as I like to call her, was apparently appalled at the comments made by Letterman in his monologue referring to her daughter.  And rather than letting it drop, she pointed out the comments that she claims were aimed at her fourteen year old daughter, to the world just in case they missed it.  The comments were not aimed at her 14 year old but towards her older daughter, you know, the 18 year old unwed mother.  Her 18 year old has been fodder for late night comedians since last November.  In her statement, she pretends to not understand this and thrusts her poor 14 year old into the national spotlight (I believe the woman likes to use her children for her personal gain) stating that Letterman’s comments were aimed at the 14 year old.  Disingenuous?  Yes, but it worked in keeping her name in the press for one more day.  I guess she was so disappointed she didn’t get the key speaker gig at the annual Senate-House Republican dinner at the Washington Convention Center on Monday and had to keep her name in the press some way or another.  Anyway, I was thrilled by David Letterman’s direct and honest response to her facetious distress.  Take a look:

The audio is a bit low and as soon as I find a better version of it I will post it.

Huzzah!

We have a new President!  And yes I did open a bottle of champagne!  (Altho’ I only had about 1/4th of a glass – just enough to toast the new President and his administration.  I am very proud – so proud I am using a capital “P” when I use the word President now.  Excellent inaugural speech.  Now that all the trumpets have been blown and banners flown, let’s get to work and get this mess cleaned up.

Good Morning!

I don’t usually drink during the day, particularly a work day, but I may have to make an exception tomorrow and have a glass of champagne for breakfast.  I plan to have breakfast around 9:30ish my time (11:30ish D.C. time).  I expect there will be tremendous wind gusts around that time tomorrow when those of who have been holding our breath waiting for 01/20/09 to arrive can finally let out a giant sigh of relief.

Thank you for taking on this job Mr. Obama.  He is inheriting so many problems, so many impossible situations from the Middle East to Detroit and back again that I wonder if he is having second thoughts about taking the position.  I know I would be.  You know, those horrible doubts and butterflies you get in your stomach the night before you start a new job or  go back to school or go to a job interview.  I spend the night before any new endeavor coming up with excuses as to why I couldn’t possibly do it and telling myself, you know, I don’t have to do this, I can just not show up, I don’t need the stress, etc.  I wonder if Obama’s having thoughts of going up to the podium and saying, “You know what, no thank you.  I don’t think I want this job.  Here, Joe – you take it.”

I know Barack Obama is the right man for the job.  I know he can get this country back on track and I’m willing to do whatever small part as a citizen that I can to help.  That said, I’m going to go do my part to help the economy by going shopping for a nice bottle of champagne for tomorrow morning.  Let the celebration begin!  I feel like singing and dancing even!!!!

PS – Bye-bye George.  I’d say thanks for everything but I wouldn’t mean it.  Hope you find something useful to do with the rest of your life and find a way to redeem yourself.  But I guess the first thing you’ll need to do is admit you made mistakes, that’s the only way you’ll find redemption.

At least we got rid of ours….

The video is remarkably well done.  I particularly like the bored expression on Putin and the concentration as Ahmadinejad knits his little potholders.  I’m glad that that cocky little self-congratulating half grin of Mr. Bush (that I so dislike) was finally put to good use.  I just wish there was a good a mechanism (free elections) for Russia and Iran to get rid of their “leaders.”

I know Amnesty International’s message is a heavy one, but the above is funny and well made and carries their message much more so than other of their advertising I’ve seen in the past.  It goes back to George Bernard Shaw – you get the message across with humor or perhaps Mary Poppins said it best “just a spoonful of sugar makes the medicine go down.”

I got this from YouTube by way of  TVSpot from http://efilyzarcym.wordpress.com/

Palin 2012?… Evita lives!

Excuse me I just threw up a little in my mouth when I typed that.  OMG … what an ego this woman must have … she cost John McCain untold number of votes (altho truthfully, I think the election would have gone to Obama no matter who McCain was forced to become bedfellows with) and then she has the nerve to consider running in four years?  Is it just me or does anyone else see the similarities between Palin and Evita Peron?  Pandering to those among is in the population who believe “gas guzzling” vehicles are their God given right, while corruption charges nip at her spikey heels and making promises that she never means to keep while dressing herself to the “nines” for the very same fans… I won’t carry the analogy as far as casting McCain in the role of Juan Peron, he’s better than that (altho’ he does look good in a uniform).

Thank God Barack Obama is on his way to the White House and from what I can see going about transitioning into power in an intelligent and careful manner.

Please take a look at this blog entry at Mudflats – she has the inside scoop on her governor’s machinations:

Palin 2012   ooops, sorry, I threw up a little again….

It ain’t over till its over

Yogi is a very wise and astute man.  When I find myself on the verge of optimism about Obama’s chances of becoming president in two days time, I pull myself back and review past elections and remember there is no coasting towards the finish line.  His win must be overwhelming.   But my optimism was fed just a tad about half an hour or so ago, when out of the blue (no pun intended) a McCain television commercial appeared during the Amazing Race, and it was a particularly nasty, slanderous type of commercial that was, in my opinion, nothing but lies and exaggerations.   Why would this commercial make me feel optimistic about Obama’s odds of becoming our next president?  Well, I live in Arizona.  Senator McCain is having to protect his home territory.  Apparently, even the red states are turning purple and if you aren’t careful will be blue before Tuesday night.

Like I said, I know… it ain’t over till its over …. so if you haven’t voted already, get out there on Tuesday and do so, particularly if you’re voting for Sen. Obama.

What do Chris Buckley and Colin Powell have in common?

Both are intelligent men, both are Republicans, both have announced they support Barack Obama for President.

Watch the video please if you care to know Mr. Buckley’s reasoning – I particularly agree with his assessment of McCain as he is now.

Here is Colin Powell on Meet the Press

3 million dollar overhead projector?

During last night’s debate, Sen. McCain made a reference to a three million dollar “overhead projector” for the Adler Planetarium as an example of wasteful spending.  Spacewriter eloquently explains the difference between an “overhead projector” and a planetarium projection system here “Who Knew a Planetarium Was a Political Weapon” to John McCain (I think the rest of us know the difference).

Also here is a follow up which includes a statement from the Adler Planetarium: An Interesting Use of Facts

There’s no need for me to write about this Spacewriter says it all.

Watch this please

For those who don’t know him, this is Craig Ferguson.  He is very funny, very smart and in this video speaks for me and countless others.  Craig’s rant is wonderful but if you don’t have time to watch the whole thing – go to the about 5 minute mark and watch from there.  Mr.  Ferguson, if you please:

Go Craig!!!!  BTW – Craig Ferguson chose to become a citizen of the U.S. this year (got 100% on his test!). I think naturalized citizens sometimes have a better understanding of what a privilege it is to vote.
