This is what its like to live in the desert. Its 11:30 at night and we’re having the first real rain we’ve had in what feels like months and months and months. There’s lightening and thunder and I can hear the rain on the roof pounding down (thanks hearing-aids) and I opened the door, in my very bad neighborhood and just let the rain flood in. I needed to smell that wonderful, delicious wet desert perfume that comes with the rain. Oh, I know I’ll have to pay for this – the weeds will be agrowin’ fast in the next few days but its worth it to hear and feel the water and smell the earth. I just hope we get more of these in the next few days and weeks. And now I must turn off the old computer lest it be fried by a power surge. Good night.
…. wait … I think its over. I’m not hearing rain anymore. Dang, and that’s what its like to live in the desert. Five minutes of rain followed by hours and days of over 100 degree weather … (sigh) I’m going to turn up the AC now and go to bed ….
